Harry Hussein, General Manager, Baltimore Wins Maryland
International Leadership Award
Baltimore, March
11, 2005 Harry Hussein, General Manager Baltimore, HUAL North America was selected
as a winner of Maryland's 2005 International Business Leadership Awards. The award is presented to an individual within a
Maryland company who has led their company to new global heights, demonstrating an
entrepreneurial spirit, determination, creativity and the cultural sensitivity that global
business demands.
With corporate headquarters in Oslo Norway, HUAL has been one of the major players in
worldwide vehicle transportation for over 30 years. Best known for transporting
automobiles, HUAL also transports heavy equipment, including commercial vehicles,
agricultural equipment, road building equipment, boats, aircraft, break-bulk cargoes and
more. HUAL's worldwide services connect North
America, South America, the Caribbean, West and South Africa, Europe, and Asia. Every day, HUAL
state-of-the-art shipping vessels capable of carrying over 6,000 vehicles cross the seven
seas. HUAL operates subsidiaries in Europe, the U.S. and Japan, with additional
representative coverage in the Middle East, Korea, and Africa.
HUAL has been calling Baltimore since 1972, and in 2003 relocated its offices from
Broening Highway to Baltimore's Amports Atlantic Pier complex. "All of HUAL's U.S. outbound trades call in
Baltimore at Amports Atlantic Terminal, so having our offices here is a big benefit for
all involved" said Jim Butcher, President of HUAL North America Inc. HUAL's Baltimore office is one of four North
American offices, also in New York, Chicago, and Jacksonville. In 2004, HUAL received GM's prestigious
"Supplier of the Year" award.
Harry Hussein, originally from England, moved to Baltimore in 1994 as General Manager for
NYK-NOS shipping. With the acquisition of
NYK-NOS, Harry joined HUAL as General Manager in January 2000. Under the leadership of Harry Hussein and his
Baltimore team, HUAL has recorded a four-fold increase in total cargo shipped from
Baltimore in the past 4 years. In the last
year alone, HUAL vessels called on the Port of Baltimore more than seven times a month. HUAL's key destination markets out of the Port of
Baltimore include Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Africa, Europe, Japan, and Korea. In the future, Hussein sees strong growth
potential in Iraq, Australia, Russia, and Africa. HUAL recently started a direct service
from the U.S. to West Africa and South Africa two locations that had little major
vessel activity prior to HUAL.
Harry Hussein is a true globe trotter, having been in the shipping industry for 25 years. He has called four countries home, including the
U.K., Canada, Japan and the U.S. Hussein
believes in meeting customers face-to-face. "It's
all about relationships," says Harry "you need to connect with each customer and
each culture."
Hussein is a graduate of Redbridge Technical College in Romford, England. For over ten years, he has been proud to call
Maryland home, and now resides in Lutherville with his wife of 20 years and two children. Hussein is active in the Traffic and Propeller
Clubs, as well as in the Private Sector Port
Coalition. He very much looks forward to full
U.S. citizenship approval this year. |
