11, 2005 Dr. Scott Koerwer, Associate Dean of Executive Education, Entrepreneurship
and Marketing Communications at the Robert H. Smith School of Business, University of
Maryland was selected as a winner of Maryland's 2005 International Business Leadership
Awards. The award is presented to an
individual within Maryland who has led his or her organization to new global heights,
demonstrating an entrepreneurial spirit, determination, creativity and the cultural
sensitivity that global business demands.
The Robert H. Smith School of Business is an internationally recognized, comprehensive
school of business offering undergraduate, masters, doctoral and executive education
programs. Specifically noted for its leadership in management education and research for
the digital economy, the Smith Schools Executive MBA (EMBA) program first grew roots
in College Park, MD and Beijing, China, and has now expanded to include Europe. The Smith
School recently partnered with the Graduate School of Business Administration Zürich to
deliver a dual-degree global EMBA program. Dr. Koerwer played a key role in helping
the Smith School enter the Chinese professional education marketplace and expand its
programs in Europe. His tireless efforts make
him a true leader in academia and the business world, stated Secretary of State Karl
Aumann. The Smith School now operates on three continents, with programs in the U.S.,
China (Beijing and Shanghai), Switzerland (Zurich), and Poland (Lodz). The program is dedicated to preparing graduates to
lead organizations in an economy fueled by technology, globalization and new venture
opportunity. Revenue from the Executive
Education program grew to nearly $4 million in just over three years. Projected revenue for 2005 is $7 million.
Dr. Koerwer came to the University of Maryland, College Park in April 2001. Prior to this
move, he was the Senior Director of Corporate Management Development at the University of
Pennsylvanias Wharton School. He spent nearly 10 years at Wharton where he served in
many different capacities. During his tenure,
Scott traveled the world to engage clients, managed a professional staff in the U.S. and
Asia, and worked with corporations on learning and professional development challenges. He was also successful at growing revenues,
developing and directing a $20 million annual budget.
Dr. Koerwer led the concept, development and launch of the Executive MBA program at the
Smith School. He now heads the Office of
Executive Education, the Executive MBA Program, the MBA Consulting Program, Smith Advisory
& Collaborative Services, and the Smith EMBA and certificate programs in China,
Poland, and Switzerland. He also oversees the
Office of Marketing Communications and serves as the Executive Director of the Dingman
Center for Entrepreneurship. He has
established critical partnerships with companies including the World Bank, Lockheed
Martin, Black & Decker, Otis Elevator, NEXTEL and the American College in Bryn Mawr,
PA.
Dr. Koerwer holds a Doctorate of Education from the University of Pennsylvania and a
Masters in Government and Political Science from Lehigh University. His career has included both business and academic
initiatives. A spirit of entrepreneurship and passion for ethics motivates Scott.
Dr. Koerwer is a co-founder and advisory board chairman of Intelliworks, a board member of
the Sino-US Institute of International Management in Beijing and an Advisory Board Member
for the Partnering Initiative on Education and Civil Society. He also sits on the Board of
Directors for the Maryland Sister States Program and has played a role in advancing
Maryland-Anhui and Maryland-Lodz Region relationships, among other involvements. He
resides in Ellicott City with his wife Christine and their two daughters. |
