Albrecht Fellowship for College Students

Prepare undergraduates for careers in global business

Knowledge, skills, and connections.

Those are all key to building a successful career in global business. At the World Trade Center Institute (WTCI), we help build the next generation of leaders through our Albrecht Fellowship for college students.

Current undergraduate and graduate students or recent college graduates are encouraged to apply. They tour global businesses across Maryland and meet with executives. Some of the companies they will visit include McCormick, Under Armour, Stanley Black and Decker, Ciena, T. Rowe Price, Pompeian Olive Oil, and Tessco. This gives them an inside look at how different organizations work and the opportunity to make professional connections needed to stand out in the competitive job market. The fellowship will also help college students to start building their brand and launch their professional networks.

Become a Fellow

Approximately 25 fellows are selected each year. Applicants must demonstrate leadership, a trajectory that shows achievement, strong communication and interpersonal skills, and the willingness to make a commitment of their personal time to participate in ALL program sessions. The program cost is $495 but scholarships are available and all are encouraged to apply.

2023 Schedule

The Fellowship runs for 10 days in August, with a few optional September and/or October sessions. Each day typically lasts from 9:30 until about 3:30pm and may include visits to site visits to featured companies.

A Healthy Outlook

Not wanting to sit idle as internships and summer jobs evaporated due to the pandemic, Keren Herrán applied for the WTCI Albrecht Fellowship. Not only did she broaden her horizons by learning more about global business, but she made a lifelong connection with an invaluable mentor.

“Before the program, I had no idea what was expected of someone looking to start their career. But visiting 10 different companies and learning how they operate increased my understanding and knowledge greatly. I was also grateful to build relationships with all my peers in the program. Overall, the program matured my development in what feels like years of experience in a short timeframe. I would strongly recommend this program for college students looking for guidance and taking the next step.”

Fellowship Founder:
Dr. James Albrecht

The idea to create the Albrecht Fellowships for College Students came from Baltimore icon Dr. James Albrecht. The program marries two of his lifelong interests: youth education and global business. Bringing those interests together under the umbrella of WTCI was a natural, as Dr. Albrecht has been involved with the organization for more than three decades. He is a founding member of the WTCI Board of Directors.
