Thompson is the owner of Winbak Farm, the largest single family owned and operated breeding farm in the industry. Founded in 1991, Winbak Farm locations have since expanded to Delaware, New York, Pennsylvania, and Canada. However, prior to the establishment and expansion of Winbak Farm, Thompson was President of Planco, which he sold to The Hartford in 1998. As owner of the Farm and after selling Planco , Thompson founded Pacer Financial, which he still serves as CEO.
Throughout his 22 years of experience as successful business man and owner of Winbak Farm, Thompson has received a number of prestigious awards including Leading breeder in Delaware for 2004-2014, Ontario for 2010, 2013 & 2014, & New York for 2007-2013, 2001 Sportseye Magazine Standardbred Breeder of the Year, and Harness Racing Hall of Fame Inductee 2015, among many others. Thompson has also been Director of Standard Breeders of Delaware, Inc., Director for The Hambletonian Society, Former Director of Maryland Standard Breeders Association, and a member of Maryland, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania Standard Breeders Associations. Today, Thompson is the current Trustee Emeriti for the Harness Racing Museum & Hall of Fame in Goshen, NY.
Joe is a board member of the World Trade Center Institute, as well as a member of the Financial Planning Association and The American Society of Chartered Financial Planners, and a 2011 Receiver of the Morrison Medallion Award from Transylvania University, where he graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration & Economics.
