Augusto’s commitment to the empowerment power of online education goes back to an early Stanford University experiment in computer-based self-paced courses. The class was on “Logic”, and he was so engaged by this new learning experience that he finished the semester-long class in the first week. That experience has shaped his life-long belief into what he sees as one of the most powerful “equalizers” of the internet: Online Education. A commitment that continues today with Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs).
Augusto is a co-founder of www.MOOCsUniversity.org, and creator of one of the leading MOOCs Provider Directories, www.MOOCs.co. Earlier, as a principal with one of the country’s first Online Education Consumer Organizations, AboutEdu, and in conjunction with the senior management of the country’s largest American Association of Community Colleges (AACC), he proposed, and co-managed the development of the first learner-focused search portal for the affordable online programs of community colleges nationwide, ww.OnlineCommunityColleges.org. Prior to joining AboutEdu, he was Senior Vice President of Global Business Development and a member of the start-up team of what today is a billion dollars world leader in International Higher Education – Laureate International Universities. He came to Laureate from one of the first eLearning subsidiaries by a major University, New York University’s Online Education division (NYU online), where he headed Global Business Development.
Mr. Failde, a frequent industry speaker, was the featured speaker on “Ethics in the Age of Online Education and MOOCs” at this year’s Society of Corporate Compliance and Ethics – Higher Education Conference. He was honored as one of the recipients of the World Trade Center Institute’s (WTCI) International Business Leadership award, and since 2008, he has been a member of the WTCI’s Board of Directors.
Mr. Failde is also the co-author of the Twitter-inspired “Good from Grief” and of one of the first Business Self-Help books for the Latino population – Simon & Schuster’s “Latino Success” (English) / “Exito Latino” (Spanish). Augusto holds an M.B.A. from the Harvard Business School, and an undergraduate degree in International Relations / Economics from Stanford University.
