John J. Thompson is the Naval Air Systems Command campaign director for Northrop Grumman Mission System’s Airborne C4ISR Systems division, a leading global provider, manufacturer and integrator of advanced, secure and agile software-defined systems and solutions.
As the senior business development representative for the division’s naval aviation business area, Thompson leads the identification, development and capture of naval aviation program opportunities and endeavors to ensure all Navy-related customer engagements and strategies are successful.
Before joining Northrop Grumman in 2013, Thompson was a career naval officer and aviator with more than 24 years of staff and command leadership with the U.S. Navy, joint and international airborne electronic attack communities. Thompson has extensive experience in requirements planning and programming for tactical aircraft and advanced weapons systems programs, having designed and executed strategic plans supporting the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Chief of Naval Operations, combatant commanders and international defense partners.
As a naval aviator, Thompson accumulated more than 3,700 hours of flight time in tactical aircraft, and supported six combat deployments, including Operations Southern Watch, Deny Flight, Deliberate Forge, Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom.
Thompson earned a bachelor’s degree in engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy and holds an advanced degree from the U.S. Air Force Command and Staff College. He is a native of Maryland.
