Professional Exchanges Program

Mission: Building connections and long-lasting relationships through international exchanges that result in a stronger local community and a more peaceful, prosperous world.

Background: For over 20 years, WTCI’s Professional Exchanges Program department has designed and delivered exchange programs for foreign professionals from around the world. Each year more than 700 exchange participants come to Maryland to connect with their counterparts and the relationships they forge become a powerful tool for addressing some of the biggest global challenges. WTCI is the sole program administrator of the U.S. State Departments’ International Visitor Leadership Program in Maryland and one of the few certified organizations to participate in the USAID’s Community Connections.

Fee for Services

In coordination with the U.S. State Department, Open World Leadership Center, and the U.S. Agency for International Development, amongst others, WTCI is certified to design and implement foreign exchange programs in the state of Maryland. Some examples include the Fulbright Visiting Scholars Enrichment Program, Jovenes en Accion (Youth in Action), and Community Connections.

University Services

WTCI continuously supports the mission of the American higher education system to give hands-on experience and exposure to real life situations for American and international students in various fields. We work with area universities to enhance their educational programs by connecting their students to government agencies, private sector entities, embassies and industry associations. In addition, WTCI works with foreign universities to connect their faculty and students to local academic institutions for various exchanges, to expose them to real world professionals and to gain first-hand experience in their field of interest.

International Visitors Leadership Program (IVLP)

The IVLP, a program of the U.S. Department of State, brings international emerging leaders to the United States to meet with professional counterparts and experience American culture. These participants have been identified by our U.S. embassies abroad as experts in their fields across a wide range of disciplines. The goal of IVLP is to create opportunities for these visiting individuals and groups to interact with their American professional counterparts, to share ideas, and to build long lasting relationships that will have far-reaching and positive effects. More than 50 current and 275 former Chiefs of State or Heads of Government are IVLP alumni.

Embassy & Professional Association Services

WTCI provides professional and cultural programming services for many foreign embassies and their distinguished guests and inbound trade missions. We have a wide variety of expertise and can customize requests to meet clients’ needs. We are capable of organizing targeted, invitation-only networking luncheons with attendees that have vested interests in the country or industry being featured. We can complement the networking opportunity with a site visit to a desired private sector company, government agency, nonprofit organization or university.
